Biography

Paloma Verloze, a dedicated and inspired painter of seascapes, makes her La Manzanilla debut this season with a collection of compelling ocean views. She embraces the drama of the sea and welcomes its power and grandeur which she deftly captures and generously presents to the viewer in her large-scale canvases.

A resident of Manzanillo, Verloze was born in Colima City. From an early age onward, the plastic arts held a fascination for her. Largely self-taught, she first focused on drawing and by age sixteen completed a successful charcoal self-portrait. Soon after, inspired by Frida Khalo and her journey in becoming an artist, Verloze purchased oil pigments and brushes which became her favored medium.

The body of work that Verloze has produced to date has earned her well-deserved recognition. Her canvases have been included in various prestigious art shows including two solo exhibitions, one at the Presidencia Municipal de Manzanillo and another at the Universidad Tecnológica Metropolitana Salón AAAPUMAC, as well as in several group exhibitions, among these an exhibit in Colima at the Centro Cultural Horacio Cervantes and another in Mexico City at Televisa Santa Fe. In addition, Verloze on occasion has also worked as a cartoonist, producing imagery for “El Planeta” newspaper and Semanary magazine, both published in Manzanillo.

Depicting the natural world remains at the core of her passions, whether the specific subject matter be landscape, seascape, or portrait, rendered realistically or abstracted. “What inspires me,” says Verloze, “is portraying the beauty of a single moment, as I perceive this, within eternal and ever-evolving life. When I feel in harmony with the process of painting and in synchrony with the paint itself, I know I have succeeded, yet I never feel a painting is ever finished. Creation is so wondrous and vast, there is always more to record and express and so I begin the next painting.”
