Biography

Lush surfaces, strong composition, and flud expressive brushwork distinguish the oil paintings of Patricia Smith. Her ability to capture the inner beauty of the person or landscape, seascape or interior gives her work a lively spirit  that appeals to many collectors, both individual and corporate.

Pat paints on location or from live models, and her inspiration clearly lies with the Impressionist. She uses a lively, loose brushstroke to express the colors and values that flow through her landscapes, and interiors.

Pat spends half her year teaching in the U.S. from her home in Wisconsin’s Lake Country. The other half of the year, she can be found in her Puerto Vallarta studio and exploring the hidden back roads of Mexico and Central America.

“I’m attracted to the life of indigenous cultures in towns off the beaten path.” While in Mexico, Pat paints the bustling markets with their profusion of fruits and flowers or women and children, often painted against a background of colonial architecture.

Pat began painting as a young woman and credits her major influences on her technique from teachers at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee where she received her B.F.A. degree. She gathered extensive experience in design while working her small business-Moon Bags, Inc.- a handbag design company which she started and builtto a national firm for over 25 years.
